"I get all my work from word of mouth." I hear this a lot, and it's a good problem to have. But here's the thing: word of mouth already sends people to your website — whether you have one or not.

What actually happens after a referral

When your neighbour tells someone about you, that person almost never calls right away. They look you up first. If nothing comes up — or worse, an abandoned Facebook page from 2019 comes up — some of those referrals quietly go to the company that did show up.

A website's job is to close the loop

It doesn't need to be fancy. It needs to answer the three things every referred customer checks:

  1. Are they real? Photos of actual work, a real name, a Winnipeg address.
  2. Do they do what I need? A plain list of services.
  3. How do I reach them? A phone number and a form that works.

That's it. That's the whole job.
